10 Wardrobe Essentials That Will Never Go Out of Style

Trends are great. They are fun, fresh and offer us new ways  to broaden our style-horizons. But if you want to build a closet with long-lasting staying power, we suggest creating a capsule wardrobe based around essential items that will never go out of style. Pieces that are timeless, classic, and serve as the building blocks for versatile fashion. With a world full of fashion to chose from, how do we narrow it down to pieces that go the distance? For help, we turned to Crystal Coons, Fashion Blogger and YouTuber for some well-seasoned advice.

Here are 10 styles that will never go out of style. How many do you own?

A Great Jumpsuit

Let's start this list off with something unexpected... a jumpsuit. Yes, friends, a well-fitting jumpsuit is a wardrobe staple! According to Coons, " I call this my 'OMG I HAVE FIVE MINUTES TO BE THERE' outfit. It's a no brainer - just pull it on and pair with pointed toe black heels for a clean, chic, and super stylish look that takes zero effort."

We concur. This is a style our mom could have worn the heck out of 30 years ago and one that will be just as great 30 years from now.

A Nautical-Inspired Striped Tee

If it was good enough for Audrey Hepburn, it's good enough for me! A universally flattering style, though one many are still petrified to try. "This is one fashion rule I will always fight against: horizontal stripes do not add bulk," proclaims Coons. They are timeless and sophisticated and can work with nearly every aesthetic. My personal favorite version is in a lightweight long sleeve tee, paired with leather-look jeans. "

A Spiffy Moto Jacket

If you do not already own a moto-style leather (or faux-leather) jacket, RUN, don't walk, to get one. This style. Will literally. Never. Go out. Of fashion.
Even style guru Coons say that this look is "non negotiable" when putting together a core wardrobe. In black, it will take you from sundress and jeans to cocktail dress and to the office and back. "If you add one thing to your closet," she explains, "it MUST be this!"

A Basic Black Camisole Top

This is the ultimate in layering pieces that, according to Coons, works under everything. It is so simple, so elegant and so easy.

Chic, Draped Long-Sleeve Top

You want a top that goes the distance? Try a soft, chic, minimalist jersey-knit top. "I think a long sleeve t-shirt will ultimately replace the white blouse as the essential top," explains Coons.  "Especially when fabrics are mixed, the basic piece is elevated and looks just as chic under a blazer as it does tucked into a pencil skirt and paired with your favorite jeans."

We love this specific top that plays with neutrals and two-tones to keep it modern and fresh.

Classic Trench Coat

This is one piece you should take the time to find the PERFECT fit. A camel-colored trench coat has been keeping folks stylish (and perfectly warm / cool in between seasons) since as long as we can remember.

Distressed Denim

A style that worked just as well with Keds 40 years ago as it will look 40 years from today! Skinny jeans are here to stay. "Skinny distressed jeans are my choice for a go-to weekend or date night jean," explains Coons.  "Sleek and sophisticated in a dark wash (charcoal, indigo or black), ankle length, and with a knee rip to show a hint of sexiness & attitude."

A Clean-line Pencil Skirt

If it was good enough for Grace Kelly it's good enough for us! The workhorse of all skirts, this one is literally perfect for every...single...occasion. From the office to date night and dinner. Find one in black, grey, or navy to go the distance!

The Black Wrap Dress

The single dress that every woman must own. Wrap dresses have been wardrobe staples for years and there is a reason why. They are timeless, comfortable, and beyond figure flattering!

A Knit Tunic Sweater / Top

As Coons says, "The shoulders are the sexiest part of a woman's body, hands down. This off the shoulder tunic is not only perfectly cuddly paired with leggings for an afternoon reading your favorite book, but it's also gorgeous with leather skinnies for an evening out." Off shoulder looks never go out of style!
