13-Year-Old Survives Fall That Put 6-Inch Nail Through His Skull
Listen...an angel was definitely LOOKING OUT for this 13-year-old kid! Darius Foreman nearly lost his life when he fell while building a treehouse.
According to USA Today , it all started after Darius fell onto a foot-long wooden board with a large construction screw. Apparently, It was lodged in his HEAD PIERCING HIS BRAIN AND SKULL!!!
Darius said he was oblivious to how severe it was.
“I thought something was stuck in my hair,” Darius said.
All he knew was that he was “in a lot of pain.”
Thankfully, his two cousins were there to have his back and help save his life!
They noticed him walking around the yard with the giant board stuck to his head and instant ran to get his mother, who called 911. Meanwhile, they kept their cool and had him lie on the ground as they waited for the paramedics to come.
When the paramedics arrived on the scene, they had to cut the board off so he could fit into the ambulance!!! He was later medevaced to Baltimore to get treated at John's Hopkins. THIS BOY WAS SOOOOOO CLOSE TO DYING!
An X-ray showed a portion of the screw lodged right between the two halves of the brain -- threatening to tear the largest channel that drains blood and other fluids from the brain, CNN reported.
Injury to this part of the brain could have been "catastrophic," his surgeon, Dr. Alan Cohen, told the cable news network.
"He was a millimeter away from having himself bleed to death," he added. “He’s a lucky guy."
OH YEAH HE IS!!!! BUT THIS SEEMS TO BE A DIVINE INTERVENTION!
Darius' mom, Joy Ellingsworth, stressed that this was the most terrifying ordeal she had ever experienced as a mother. "I absolutely panicked," Ellingsworth said. "It was very scary, one of the scariest things I've ever been through."
The good news: Darius was released and is home, healing and doing well. The teenager shared that he kept a little memento of his accident: The screw itself!!!
Looking back, Darius says this life-altering experience taught him a pretty valuable lesson: "Never build a tree fort."
EVER. EVER. AGAIN.
Darius will just have to take intravenous antibiotics for a minute while he heals. But when you think about it, that's nothing when you think of how this situation could have turned out!
Prayers up for you Darius!!! Get well soon!!!
