Have you noticed the recent spike in violent crimes being committed by children against their parents? Well, another one of those tragic incidents was reported on May 23 in Anaheim, California, where a teenager attacked his own mother with a baseball bat.

For reasons unknown, Seth White bludgeoned 58-year old Karen White so badly that she has been hospitalized in critical condition. The sworn peace officer who has worked for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation since November 1996 is now fighting for her life.

Immediately following the altercation, residents of the mobile home park at the 5800 block of La Palma Avenue where they lived saw Seth fleeing on foot carrying the bat. They called authorities who discovered Karen on the floor of her home in distress.

A separate phone call from Seth himself led police to a nearby riverbed on the Santa Ana River Trail. He was still holding the bat. Anaheim PD took him into custody and have charged him with attempted murder.

Aside from the obvious question of why Seth attacked his own mother so viciously, it will be interesting to see how he will be prosecuted. His mother is a member of the law enforcement community which might mean stiffer penalties for Seth, especially since he is not a minor.

At the same time, this is a domestic situation and no one knows what happened prior to the the assault. Could Seth have been defending himself? He was quick to turn himself in after all. Could he have been the aggressor? This may not be the first time that Seth has attacked his mother as cases of parental abuse are real.

Might want to keep your eye on this one. Something tells us that there is a lot more to learn about what really happened here.
