5 Tips For Feeling Relaxed And At Peace
Society constantly encourages us to GO GO GO! And I just want to yell:
Unfortunately, I'm not a Lyon, so I can't make the world pause whenever I want it too. But last I checked, I'm still in charge of me, and when the everything seems to be spinning out of control, I have the power to bring about a sense of inner peace to my own little world. Here's what I do:
1. Yoga
It's not just candles and child's pose y'all. After trying out yoga for a month, I found my inner spirit feeling much more at rest. People even noticed my aura changed colors to a calmer blue (I live in LA where auras are apparently a thing). Now, I still attend yoga 4-5x a week, not just for physical exercise, but for mental peace. Get your butt into a class today to start relaxing!
2. Escape With a Book
A good book has the power to ignite your imagination and transport you to another world. When life gets to be too dang crazy, bury your head in a fantastical story and feel the relief of well-written prose wash over you.
3. Practice minimalism
Declutter your environment to help declutter your mind. The more things on your desk, the more things on your mind. It's a strange psycho-environmental connection that I don't understand, but fully believe. If you're really feeling lazy, check out this Tumblr page. The photographs of perfectly clean workspaces always brings me peace.
4. Listen to calming music
This isn't the time to blast Kesha (though if it were any other time, I'd be blasting it right alongside you!). This is a time to listen to soothing sounds and have a moment to sigh out whatever bothers you. Let the music twirl around you, drowning you in a sea of serenity. My go-to during periods of stress is Enya; she's gotta be relaxed like all the time, right?
5. Breathe
I'm not really into meditation. Or, maybe what I'm doing is meditation. I don't even know. What I do is just take 60 seconds to focus only on my breathing. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. But it's worth a shot! If it fails, then it's only 60 seconds of my life. For super stressful moments, I combine my breathing with Enya. Now that always does the trick.
