2. Make a To-Do List, Stick to It

Some people think making a to-do list, in and of itself, is a waste of time. But setting a list of organized goals to complete throughout the day will actually save you a lot of time spent running around like a chicken with your head cut off. Go down your list, starting with the most time consuming or annoying task, and check off each item as you complete it. If you set realistic goals, you will probably find that your list took you less time than you thought it would, and now you have some extra moments for yourself.

Last year, Huffington Post published an article entitled “U.S. Workers Spend 6.3 Hours A Day Checking Email: Survey”. Wow. That’s like three movies worth of time! It would be borderline ridiculous to recommend that you not check your email on a daily basis, but here’s a suggestion: rather than checking every single notification that comes through your smartphone, silence your cell and only check your emails first thing in the morning, on your lunch break and a couple of hours before you turn in for the night. This alone could give you a couple of hours back. Easily.

4. DVR Your TV Shows

A lot of time can be wasted watching television (this includes Netflix and Hulu). No one is saying that you shouldn’t check out your favorite programs, just maybe not every night. Record them instead and watch them on the weekends. It will help you to get more accomplished at night, and also give you something cool to look forward to while you’re chilling on the couch on Saturday or Sunday.

5. Go to Bed 30 Minutes Later

This tip might sound odd, but here’s the gist. If you commit to getting no less than 7-8 hours each night (which is ideal), this means you’re probably going to bed no later than 11’ish. If that’s the case, you can spare an extra 30 minutes to take a bubble bath or finish up a chapter of a book you’re interested in. Besides, health experts say that it’s best to drift off to sleep rather than to crash. Taking a half hour to relax could be one of the best things to happen to you. It’s a great way to use your time wisely.
