7 'Gangsta' Crooked Cops Arrested in Baltimore & The City Is Shocked

As if we needed one more reason not to trust the police, the Baltimore Police Department is back in the spotlight yet again and the news ain't good. 

Seven officers have been arrested in an undercover investigation exposing corruption that allegedly included stealing from everybody including the city itself. And before you ask—yes, most of the officers are Black (five to be exact). SMH...

As reported by CNN, all seven detectives were part of a Baltimore police Gun Trace Task Force who federal prosecutors say operated like 1930's-style gangsters. 

"These are really robberies by people who are wearing police uniforms," said Maryland U.S. Attorney Rod Rosenstein. Baltimore State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby was not in the loop regarding the federal investigation into their activities. Momodu Gondo, Evodio Hendrix, Daniel Hersl, Wayne Jenkins, Jemell Rayam, Marcus Taylor, and Maurice Ward have each been charged with racketeering.

And they made quite the racket alright. These cats made fake traffic stops, falsified search warrants, stole cash from innocent and not-so-innocent people (they didn't discriminate) ranging in amounts from $200 - $250,000, filed false police reports, seized drugs only to re-sell them on the streets, frequently turned body cameras off, plus intimidated witnesses and victims into guilty pleas or not testifying to the truth of a matter. They were puttin' cases on everybody. We should not be surprised if further arrests are made as many tips which fueled their illegal activities came from right inside the department.

The rogue cops couldn't stop there though. They even charged the city to the tune of more than a whopping $500,000 for overtime hours they never really worked. Every arrest that these guys ever made is now under scrutiny. The city will have to spend countless hours and even more of the city's tax dollars to investigate and free those who were victims of this corrupt group of predators. 

Let's hope that these men are held accountable for their actions both by the criminal justice system and from behind the blue wall. We don't need another Freddie Gray situation.
