A daycare worker was arrested after a young girl was found begging for food in a Queens supermarket on Wednesday night.

Police say Trimeka Crum, 35, dropped 5-year-old Essiah Miller Love off at home on Wednesday, but didn't make sure that the girl got inside safely.

According to the NY Daily News, Love eventually wandered down the street and into the Three Brothers Meat Market, a local deli, where she told employees that she was lost and hungry. They gave her potato chips and called 911.

"I think we were more scared than her," store owner Carlos Cruz told ABC 7. "She was really quiet, and she was fine. She was fine. She was acting really brave, not crying, not yelling. She was normal, like she was in her house. We were scared to know where she came from."

Following a frantic search for her family, police reunited Love with her aunt hours later.

Crum has been charged with acting in a manner injurious to a child, according to the Daily News.

Officials with the Department of Health are expected to recommend that the state Office of Children and Family Services suspend Crum's daycare license with the state of New York.
