When asked to strike a silly pose for a senior picture day panorama, the gesture about 70 Texas students made was anything but funny.

The group of Cypress Ranch High School students is in serious trouble after they were caught on camera doing a Nazi salute for their class photo this past Tuesday.

An anonymous student who witnessed the incident emailed a local news station and said that the group was saying "Heil Hitler" and "Heil Trump" while posing with their hands raised.

"It was pretty terrifying," the student wrote in their email. "Most people may think it was just kids just joking around, but in the current political climate and the fact these kids are seniors in high school, it's beyond unacceptable."

Photos of the students' salutes went viral after being shared to social media.

"it's saddening/infuriating to see an increase in reactionary sentiment as 'jokes,'" tweeted Louis McCorgilee, a former Cypress Ranch student who graduated in 2015.

One of McCorgilee's siblings said Cypress Ranch teachers didn't do anything to stop the incident; another said there are swastikas "all over my desk" at school, according to screenshots of a group chat posted by McCorgilee.

Cypress Ranch principal Robert Hull told parents that the school is investigating the incident and will punish those involved accordingly, KPRC reported.

"This letter is to make you aware of a situation that occurred on our campus today while our senior class was taking a large group panoramic picture," Hull wrote. "Several of our students made the poor choice of displaying inappropriate gestures during this time. Unfortunately, many of these images have been shared on social media. This is extremely disappointing as this is not an accurate representation of our student body.

"We are currently conducting an investigation and those implicated will be punished according to the Student Code of Conduct," he continued. "We ask that you talk to your students regarding the posting and sharing of negative social media as this perpetuates a false image of Cy Ranch HS.

"We appreciate your partnership and support."
