Unless you live under a rock — or you're George Clooney and you've got shit to do at the UN — you found out yesterday that love is dead and everything we know is a lie Angelina Jolie has filed for divorce from Brad Pitt. The 41-year-old actress-turned-director-turned-humanitarian's team has since released statements on her behalf, shining a few rays of light on those "irreconcilable differences" between Jolie and her partner of 12 years (husband of two).

"Angelina will always do what's in the best interest of taking care of her family," her manager Geyer Kosinski told E! News on Tuesday. "She appreciates everyone's understanding of their need for privacy at this time."

Jolie's lawyer also confirmed that she was the one who made the decision to end the marriage.

"This decision was made for the health of the family," said attorney Robert Offer. "She will not be commenting, and asks that the family be given its privacy at this time."

Offer will be representing Jolie alongside Laura Wasser, the lawyer who represented Jolie in her divorce from Billy Bob Thornton in 2003, E! News reported.

Pitt himself has also spoken out about the split since the news broke. The 52-year-old actor told Reuters that he is "very saddened by this but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids."

But could the decision that's best for their kids end up being a decision to almost completely remove Pitt from the children's lives? The court documents, filed on September 15, show that Jolie is seeking full physical custody of Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10, and Knox and Vivienne, both 8. Jolie is, however, asking the judge to grant Pitt visitation rights.

While rumors were circling that Pitt's infidelity was the reason for the split, sources close to the couple said there wasn't any cheating involved. The final nail in their marriage's coffin, the sources said, was Pitt's consistently inappropriate behavior around the kids.

"Angelina reached her breaking point last week over Brad's consumption of weed and alcohol, and combined with what she says are Brad's anger issues ... his interactions with the kids created a deal-breaking problem for her," TMZ reported.

We have a feeling this split is going to be a rough one. On the bright side, Jennifer Aniston is probably having a great week.
