Bacne: 5 Ways to End Up with Clearer Skin on Your Back (Naturally)

Contrary to popular belief, no matter how clean you keep your skin, you may still be prone to acne. A lot of it is due to genetics or hormonal shifts throughout the month.

Acne is what occurs when your pores get clogged with sebum (oil), dead skin and/or bacteria. When it has no way of escaping, the pore swells, pus develops and then you have a pimple or series of pimples on your face and/or body.

If you’re someone who works out a lot, you could develop bacne (back acne). Or even simply because your bra and clothing make it hard for the pores on your back to “breathe”, that can lead to a breakout in that area. There are things you can do to help to keep that area of your body clearer, though. It’s all thanks to the help of some all-natural remedies.

1. Try some tea tree oil

One of the best things to ever happen to any form of acne is tea tree oil. It’s a powerful astringent that gets deep into your pores to kill the bacteria that causes pimples. It also reduces swelling while helping to dry out any zits you may already have. As a bonus, it does all of this without over-drying your skin. You can apply it to your back by putting a clean Q-tip into a bottle and dabbing it onto your acne. Make sure to let it dry completely. (Hint: the scent of tea tree oil can sometimes be strong, so you might want to do this at night.)

2. Take an oatmeal bath

A bowl of oatmeal in the morning provides an awesome energy boost. Meanwhile, taking an oatmeal bath is an effective way to reduce the breakouts that you have on your back. Oats have a way of pulling any excess sebum from your pores. You can also use it as an exfoliant. Simply grind some oats and pour it into some warm bathwater. Soak for about 20 minutes and then rinse.

3. Apply a natural exfoliant

If you already use baking soda for teeth, then you’re probably noticing a much whiter smile. Guess what else baking soda is good for? Exfoliating your skin! Baking soda helps to balance out pH levels in the body and it has mild anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties which can reduce inflammation. You can pour some of it under running bathwater for a soak or you can mix it with some water and turn it into a paste so that you can apply it as a mask onto your back. You can get more instructions on how to do that here.

4. Soak in apple cider vinegar

Something else that can help to restore your body’s pH levels is apple cider vinegar. It’s also extremely effective when it comes to removing bacteria and pus and decreasing inflammation in pimples. Use this as a soak while you’re in the bathtub. Or you can make a toner out of it. Mix one-part apple cider vinegar with two-parts water and put it into a spray bottle. Then spray your body when you get out of the bath or shower. Let it sit on your skin for about 20 minutes before you rinse it off.

5. Put on some Aloe Vera

It’s never a good idea to pop a pimple, but sometimes the temptation is great. Just keep in mind that when you do it, you run the risk of spreading the bacteria to other pores (and creating more zits). Not only that, but you now have a small open wound that could get infected and take just that much longer to heal. Something that does a wonderful job at healing wounds, burns and preventing scars is Aloe Vera gel. You can purchase some in a bottle at your local drug store or you can break off a piece of the plant and apply it directly to where your acne is for a speedy skin recovery.
