Beauty Myths Busted!
We’ve all got some little beauty thing we do. Something a parent or well-meaning grandparent told us that we hold dearly and we just can not let go. Well it’s time, my gorgeous friends! Because a lot of those helpful hand-me-down tips aren’t doing much to improve your beauty game, and it’s time to throw them out with the bathwater. With all the innovations in beauty, it should be no surprise that some old tricks are too tired to be helpful. Check these out and make the switch today.
Pump Your Mascara
Maybe you’ve been told that this’ll whip up the mascara sitting in the bottom of the tube, make it easier to use and thinning it out so it lasts longer. Stop! All your doing is exposing the formula to air and filling it with air bubbles, which will end in clumping and it drying out.
You Need a Base Tan
Uh, what? Base tan isn’t really a thing, and it won’t protect your skin from sun damage. Even if you’re blessed with dark skin, you’re still susceptible to sun damage no matter what. The new normal is SPF always. Get used to it.
Avoid Oil on Oily Skin
Oil-based products can actually work to balance oily skin. Why? Well, oil attracts oil, so you’ll actually end up pulling the oil your face makes away and helping keep your pores balanced.
Toothpaste Works on Zits
This is a big no. While you may see some drying action from dabbing a little Colgate on a pimple, toothpaste isn’t specifically formulated to work with your skin and even has ingredients that obviously aren’t great for it.
Mix Up Your Shampoos
You don’t need to switch it up with your shampoos if you’re using a good quality shampoo. The only time you really need to change it is when the needs of your hair change; it becomes thinner or drier or whatever. Pick a good shampoo that doesn’t leave you with a lot of buildup and you’ll be fine.
Match Foundation on Your Neck
This isn’t the best. Choose a part of your body that more closely matches your face, maybe your wrist. Try at least 3 shades and see what works best.
Drink Water for Your Skin
Unfortunately, all that water you’re guzzling isn’t making it to the skin on your face. It’s just not. Unless you are severely dehydrated you won’t see big improvements from drinking lots of water. Definitely stay hydrated, but invest in a decent night cream as well.
You Can Shrink Your Pores
Unfortunately, your pore size is your pore size; that’s determined by genetics. However, you’ll be happy to know that the more clear you keep your pores, the more refined they will appear.
If You Shatter Powder It’s Over
Don’t worry. Try mixing a little bit of rubbing alcohol into the powder and mix until it has a claylike consistency. Let it dry and you’re back in business.
Wearing Nail Polish Turns Your Nails Yellow
Nails absorb colors so apply a base coat to protect the porous nail bed and voila! And if you’re not wearing polish, wear SPF to help protect your nails—there’s skin there too!
