Adrian Jones' remains were found among his family's pigs in November 2015. This week, a disturbing detail emerged in the case of the 7-year-olds' grisly death: Adrian had told Missouri authorities that his dad and stepmother were abusing him TWO YEARS before he died.
According to CBS, an anonymous tipster had called a hotline to report abuse at Adrian's home back in July 2013, when Adrian was just 5. When a caseworker and a police officer spoke with Adrian, he told them that his dad would kick him in the head so hard that a "little bone come out."
“My daddy keeps hitting me in the head and punches me in the stomach and my mom keeps pulling on my ears and it really hurts,” Adrian said, according to records obtained by The Kansas City Star. “Mommy and Daddy lock me in my room by myself. Mommy and Daddy can’t feed me."
Even though the Missouri Children's Division found "by a preponderance of evidence" that Adrian had been abused, he was not removed from the family's home.
According to the Star, investigators and medical experts didn't find any signs of physical abuse on his body at the time.
In November 2015, two years later, Adrian's remains were found in a barn near the family's rented home. Prosecutors believe Adrian starved to death; authorities said his corpse was fed to pigs.
Michael Jones, Adrian's father, was charged with first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison Monday with no chance of parole for 25 years. Heather Jones, the stepmother, pleaded guilty last year and is also serving a life sentence.
