This story proves that there's nothing stronger than the bond between a father and his daughter.

See, Vieneese and Douglas Stanton had originally planned to have a huge wedding next April. But that all changed when they got the heartbreaking news that her 64-year-old father, Preston Rolan, was told by doctors that he had only weeks to live.

“My dad has acute leukemia … [doctors] were constantly giving us negative reports about my dad’s health so my fiancé — who’s now my husband — and I really wanted my dad to be a part of [the wedding],” she told PEOPLE of her father, who was diagnosed with the disease earlier this year.

“My dad was really excited when we got engaged,” Stanton says. “Then to find out he wouldn’t make it to our original wedding day was sad for us, so we wanted to speed the process up a little bit.”

And that, they did!

On Nov. 16, the young couple wed at the University of California, San Francisco Medical Center, surrounded by friends, family and nurses.

Oh, and did we mention that this was all a surprise to her Dad?

“Given the news of my father’s life expectancy (and with the help of an AMAZING nurse team), we were able to have a surprise wedding so my Dad could attend. The nurse team kept the wedding a secret from my Dad, so this whole day was a surprise to him,” Stanton wrote in her post.

Although her father is gravely ill, Vieneese says her Pops was filled with spunk and excitement to do his fatherly deed.

“We have both dreamed of him walking me down the aisle to my groom—and that moment finally happened. This was truly [the] best day of my life! ‘Dad, I love you more than you know, and I am going to be by your side for every step of this process,’” she stressed.

Sadly, now that the ceremony is over, Vieneese says she’s preparing to say goodbye to her Dad.

“He’s someone who always gives me wisdom, he is always making sure I make the right choices,” she told PEOPLE.

“I’m definitely going to miss his wisdom over all. He was full of humor, so I will miss laughing with my dad. There’s so much about his personality I will definitely miss.”

What a beautiful story! Prayers up for this family!
