Being a mother is never easy. The pressure and responsibility alone are enough to make me go...

Now add all that pressure and responsibility on top of raising a child in the public eye, aka being a celebrity mother. My mind is on the verge of a nervous breakdown just imagining it, let alone living it!

But, as always, mothers have this ability to surprise us, to do their jobs so well we just stand in awe of their competence, poise, and bravery. In this particular story, we take a look at the talented actress/mother Busy Philipps.

As an actor, Busy Philipps has had tremendous success. She has starred in the hugely successful series Freaks and GeeksDawson's Creek, and most recently, Cougar Town, for which she won Critics' Choice Award. She's also had roles in the films Made of Honor and He's Just Not That Into You

As a mother, Busy has two adorable daughters: Birdie Leigh and Cricket Pearl.

Aren't they just the cutest?!

In a recent interview with Mini Magazine, Busy opened up about being a mother in Hollywood. On the challenges of motherhood, Busy opined,

"...obviously, no one is perfect! I'm not perfect! I have my grown-up versions of temper tantrums too. It's not all Instagram worthy. I have a hard time not getting hurt when my kids have meltdowns. It's something I work on in therapy."

There's something so important about a beautiful woman calling out the fact that motherhood is messy. It's not just a beautiful series of Instagram photos. Simply put, it's hard. Rewarding, but still hard. I also so admire her openness about being in therapy. Just because you're a mom doesn't mean you can't benefit from talking to someone else, from seeking help and counseling. Part of being an adult is admitting when you need this help and in those moments, seeking it out.

Perhaps the most poignant and rattlimisng moment of the interview was Busy's brutally honest response to the question: What worries you most?

"This is a fucking dark answer, but I feel like being truthful. My greatest fear and worry is that one of my daughters will be sexually assaulted in her life. I know the statistics and I will try to help by starting conversations early about sex and protecting themselves, but it scares me to no end."

I cannot say why sexual assault happens. It breaks my heart, and I cannot imagine what it must feel like for a mother to bring a daughter into this world. But I can say this. It's moments like these, where people with influence speak out against the status quo in this sexist country, where they speak up for women, fighting for an end to all sexual assault, that we realize change truly is possible. Busy goes on to comment,

"I really hope that meaningful steps will be taken on campuses and I hope consent becomes a part of sex ed in schools."

Change starts with education, with discussion, with teaching people what consent means, and with thought leaders taking a stand for what's right.

Well done Mama Busy! Well done!
