'90s Babies, Rejoice! 'Clarissa Explains It All' Reboot Reportedly In Development At Nickelodeon
Don't faint just yet, '90s babies, but it looks like Clarissa Explains It All is likely being brought back to life at Nickelodeon with a reboot. The Hollywood Reporter reports that Nickelodeon is in early talks to bring the show back, with Clarissa herself — er, I mean, Melissa Joan Hart — returning for the titular role.
The former star played Clarissa Darling, a teen girl with a pet alligator. In the reprised show, Hart would play the mother of the family. The series creator, Mitchell Kriegman, is also in talks to produce. All of this is still in development, so nothing is confirmed just yet, but...
The original Clarissa Explains It All aired from 1991 to 1994. It was Nick's first series with a female lead. For a lot of people, Clarissa is one of those shows that just screams "childhood."
After Clarissa, Hart went on to star in Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, another totally classic show that people have been dying to see a remake of (Netflix is making its own version, sans Hart). Hart told E! News in 2015 that she'd potentially be open to remaking either show, but that it would have to be "done really right."
"I think it's a really tricky, fine line to walk as an actor and I had a fantastic time on that show and I just think fondly on every moment I had — all seven years on Sabrina and those four years on Clarissa — but I think you just have to be really careful with that stuff. I know the fans say they want it, but then — then they're really hard on you after. It never turns out as well as the fan-fiction does, you know?
"So, I don't know. If we were going to redo it, I would take real quality control measures to make sure that this is going to be something fantastic."
Hart is in talks to executive produce the new Clarissa, alongside Michael Kriegman and her mother Paula Hart.
And even though the deal is still in "early development" (according to The Hollywood Reporter) I think it's safe to go ahead and start celebrating, just in case. Na-na-na-na!
