Stunning! This Girl's Howard Homecoming Photo Went Viral, Now She Has a Modeling Contract
It’s every girl’s dream—to be spotted out and about and score a modeling contract. For 19-year-old South Sudanese college student Anok Yai, that dream has come true!
The gorgeous girl was hanging out at Howard's Homecoming earlier this year when she caught the eye of a photographer. He took a few photos, posted them to the ‘gram, and the rest is history… the infamous photos have over 16,000 likes and counting!
As a result of the viral photo, Yai’s social media accounts have blown up.
“My phone just started vibrating rapidly for a long, long time. At first, I honestly thought someone made a meme of me or something,” she said.
But internet fans were NOT making fun of this dark-skinned beauty. Instead, they were practically DEMANDING modeling agencies to take her on as a model!!!
Yai was born in Egypt and grew up in Manchester, N.H. She studies biochemistry at Howard BUT has always dreamt of modeling.
“It was a dream that I always wanted, but I wasn’t sure if it was going to happen,” Yai said of modeling.
Clearly, this girl has her head on her shoulders. She’s not dropping out to be a model anytime soon, but says she could imagine modeling as a part-time gig while she’s in school.
However, she doesn’t seem to understand just quite how BEAUTIFUL she really is. She wasn’t a fan of the viral photo at first! She felt that it was “an average photo.” She just posed for it quickly, since she didn’t think much of the photographer’s request at the time.
If this is Yai’s quick, casual pose, then we can’t wait to see what’s next for her when she really gets down to work!
“At first, I questioned what everyone was seeing because I didn’t really see it. Honestly, I think that people get so used to seeing themselves that people don’t see their own beauty because they see it everyday.”
Not surprisingly, Yai has been contacted by several modeling agencies since the photo went viral. She went with a modeling contract with Next Models.
We LOVE that dark-skinned women are getting more love from international modeling agencies these days, and this young lady definitely deserves it.
Dreams do come true!!! Work it, Anok! #BlackGirlMagic
