Demi Lovato Said She’s ‘1 Percent African' & The Internet Lost It
Demi Lovato got her Ancestry DNA test back, and was hype over the results. When she shared them though, she got a LOT of backlash online…when she claimed that she was 1 percent African!
The singer shared the results below, revealing that she’s mostly Spanish, with some Native American, Scandinavian, Irish and British roots…with a smidge of African:
With that one tweet, the backlash officially began.
Some folks on Twitter quickly lit her ass up, making fun of
her “big announcement.”
Others, though, quickly came to her defense.
Gonna need Demi to hit that “Trace Regions” link to see where
exactly her 1 percent falls! But, like the one girl commented on Twitter, it’s not surprising. Everyone, when you get down to it, is mixed with a little more than they know or would think…and probably have a little bit of the motherland in ‘em!
In fact, a 2014 study published in The American Journal of Human Genetics showed that about 6 million white Americans had African roots somewhere…so this isn’t really some big shocker.
It’s understandable that Demi thought it was cool and all, but was it something to make a full statement about on Twitter? Or are people reaching with “fake outrage?”
