Old Hollywood Mansions We Wish We Lived In
There's something about Old Hollywood's mystique (and lack of social media...and tabloids) that makes every anecdote, every glamourous photo, and every small glimpse into the lives of its stars seem larger than life. Their homes were no different, and lucky for us, there are photos of some of Old Hollywood's greatest legends'. Let's take a look at how they lived.
1. Marilyn Monroe's Brentwood Bungalow
It's no surprise that one of the major queens of all things glamour and elegance lived in this stunning, airy 1929 hacienda-style home in Brentwood. Bought in 1962, the actress/icon/legend sadly passed away just six months after purchasing this home.
2. Jayne Mansfield's Pink Palace
Jayne Mansfield was all about pink, and her commitment to the theme permeated all throughout her over-the-top luxurious Hollywood home, bought in 1957. Mansfield left no nook or cranny undecorated in this seven-bedroom, eight-bathroom palace, which boasted things like a heart-shaped tub...
...a heart-shaped pool...
..and huge, open rooms with massive ceilings.
3. Gregory Peck's Holmby Hills Home
Holmby Hills, which is now where Kween Kim and King Kanye reside, has long been an enclave of the wealthy and famous. This massive manse, built in 1932, is full of french doors, huge windows...
...and stunning views.
4. Humphrey Bogart and Mayo Methot's Holmby Hills Hideaway
Although there are no photos of the inside of this 1920's home, we can only imagine how beautiful it must be from the outside, and from its glamourous residents. Named Sluggy Hollow for Humphrey Bogart and Mayo Methot's infamously volatile fights that happened inside this home, these (probably) gorgeous walls must have had a lot to say before the home was demolished to make way for condos.
5. Billie Burke's Beverly Hills Abode
Billie Burke, best known for her eccentric roles in The Wizard of Oz and Dinner at Eight, lived in an equally eccentric mansion with her family. Among its many beautiful fixtures were, as Burke wrote in her memoir, "eight highly-articulate canaries." Awesome.
