Prayers Up! Eric Garner's Daughter On Life Support After Suffering A Heart Attack
Prayers up folks, because this young woman needs our love and support!
Eric Garner's 27-year-old daughter Erica continues to fight for her life after having a heart attack on Christmas day. She is currently on life support after being brought out of her medically-induced coma.
You may remember that Eric Garner was placed in a chokehold after selling cigarettes on a NYC street. NYPD continued to choke him even after he clung to his final breaths saying, "I can't breathe." His death outraged Americans nationwide and sparked protests across the U.S. His daughter, Erica, was an outspoken advocate against police brutality, marching on the front lines of justice for her dad and others like him who died unnecessarily at the hands of police.
“The Garner/Snipes family wants to thank you all for your prayers and support,” the family Tweeted on Christmas morning.
“At this moment there are no updates on Erica’s condition. They ask that you take this holiday to enjoy your loved ones and for self care. More updates will come as they are available.”
Her mother, Esaw Snipes-Garner, later texted the New York Daily News: “Please keep her and (her) children in your prayers.”
Apparently, her heart attack was brought on by an asthma attack, her family reported. That, and she gave birth to her youngest child in August and the pregnancy put a strain on her heart, Snipes-Garner added.
Ever since her father's tragic death back in 2014, Erica has been a prominent activist speaking out against police brutality and racial inequality.
She was even a strong supporter of Bernie Sanders last year, appearing in a few of his campaign videos.
"He's been, basically, a protester his whole career. He's not scared to go up against the systematic racism that exists in America today," Garner told NPR last year.
"I want our young people, especially our protesters that's putting [their] bodies on the line to bring racial issues to the forefront, to know that their vote matters," she said.
As many of us know, Erica's father Eric Garner was choked to death by NYPD officers in 2014 for selling loose cigarettes.
Video of the attack showed Garner telling cops, "I can't breathe."
Not surprisingly, a grand jury did not indict any officers over his death, a decision that prompted protests across the country, many in NYC led by Erica herself.
And while the mother of two's condition is pretty grave, the family isn't giving up hope that she'll wake up.
“(She) is still with us. She’s fighting,” Snipes-Garner stressed.
We love you sis. We need you sis. Get better!
