Have You Ever Wanted to Manage a Scottish Book Store for a Short Period of Time? Now You Can!

Scottish Book Store A Dream

You probably never thought you'd want to manage a small book store, but then again you've never come across one of the most unique AirBnb profiles we've ever seen.

If you're a book lover, or at the very least a romantic, then we recommend you check out this AirBnb listing in the small village of Wigtown, Scotland—which also holds the title as Scotland's National Book Town.

Run by a non-profit organization called The Open Book, you can rent this AirBnb for about $300 per week with the condition that you must also work in the book store. While some people might see it as weird to work for free, Adrian Turpin, director of the non-profit, sees it more as a great opportunity for a unique life experience.

Along with talking people into buying a copy of Gulliver's Travels, guests are also encouraged to organize night-time concerts or book readings. They can also add to the blog, which has great notes from former guests chronicling what seems to be nothing less than a downright quaint quiet experience.

There's something about a tiny bookstore that is so irresistible. Especially when books are stacked to the ceiling and overflowing from the walls, you get a great feeling of purpose and discovery when you step through the doors. Maybe you'll learn something, maybe you'll escape somewhere. Maybe you'll pretend like you're going to read something and then just skim a few pages, pausing to smell that distinct book smell.

Kindles are amazing and all but when it comes down to it nothing compares to the heft of a book.

Adding to the experience is being in the village of Wigtown. Located right on the sea in Southwest Scotland, this 'Quaintsville' seems like the kind of place where you have a conversation with a woman girl at night on a park bench in the fog and then realize the next morning that it was your great great grandmother who has been dead for over 50 years. Instantly you feel overwhelmed with emotion and joy that you connected back to your roots. You know... magical stuff.
