What Happened To Netflix?! Here's Why All Of Your Favorite Movies Are Disappearing
How many times have you scrolled through Netflix trying to find something new, only to give up and watch House Hunters yet again? If you're anything like us, TOO MANY.
You'd figure Netflix's selection would have gotten better after it raised its rates earlier this year. But it's actually gone the opposite direction: As the Streaming Observer found, not only has Netflix's collection of movies and TV shows gotten smaller, it's gotten worse.
After going through IMDB's Top 250 database, the Streaming Observer found that Netflix has 12 percent fewer "good" movies than it did two years ago. As of right now, only 31 movies on Netflix are on that Top 250 list. Those movies are:
- Pulp Fiction
- Forrest Gump
- The Usual Suspects
- Saving Private Ryan
- Back To The Future
- Gladiator
- Sunset Boulevard
- Cinema Paradiso
- Django Unchained
- The Shining
- American Beauty
- Reservoir Dogs
- Braveheart
- Amélie
- To Kill A Mockingbird
- Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind
- Amadeus
- The Hunt
- Good Will Hunting
- V For Vendetta
- Trainspotting
- No Country For Old Men
- Into The Wild
- There Will Be Blood
- Spotlight
- The Princess Bride
- Zootopia
- The Truman Show
- Jaws
- Ip Man
- Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl
So what's Netflix's deal? The Streaming Observer thinks it's probably because of Netflix's increased attention on original movies and shows, like Stranger Things and Orange Is The New Black, in order to build ~the Netflix brand.~ Plus, Netflix doesn't have to deal with licensing agreements if it's making its own content, making it way cheaper in that regard.
Apparently the company's end goal is to have half of its entire library be original content. It sounds like an ideal setup for Netflix, but if you want to watch a classic every now and then, you might be feeling a little left out. Amazon Video, where you at?
