Donald And Melania Trump Reportedly Went 'Days' Without Contact While Living In Trump Tower

Despite threats of legal action from the president himself, a new book depicting Donald Trump as a "volatile and ill-equipped chief executive" was released Friday, according to the The New York Times — and its claims about the first couple's marriage are truly something else.

Marie Claire reports that in Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House, journalist Michael Wolff alleges that the president and first lady's relationship has been anything but solid, even before they moved into the White House.

"Donald Trump's marriage was perplexing to almost everybody around him — or it was, anyway, for those without private jets and many homes," Wolff writes. "He and Melania spent relatively little time together. They could go days at a time without contact, even when they were both in Trump Tower.

"Often she did not know where he was, or take much notice of that fact," Wolff adds. "Her husband moved between residences as he would move between rooms."

Wolff also claims Trump has referred to Melania as his "trophy wife," and not as a joke.

"He spoke of Melania frequently when she wasn’t there," Wolff says. "He admired her looks — often, awkwardly for her, in the presence of others. She was, he told people proudly and without irony, a 'trophy wife.' And while he may not have quite shared his life with her, he gladly shared the spoils of it. 'A happy wife is a happy life,' he said, echoing a popular rich-man truism."

Trump, for his part, has denounced Wolff's book entirely, saying in a tweet Thursday night that he never gave Wolff access to the White House for his "phony book."

Wolff pushed back against Trump's remarks in an interview with NBC News Friday, asserting he "absolutely spoke to the president" and calling Trump "a man who has less credibility than, perhaps, anyone who has ever walked on earth at this point."

Besides the Trumps' relationship (or lack thereof) with his wife, Fire and Fury dives deep into Trump's psyche and personal life. If you're willing to risk POTUS' wrath, you can buy the book here for $20.98. (Unsurprisingly, it's currently the No. 1 bestselling book on Amazon.)
