Ever since she stole that bucket of chicken in Precious, we’ve been completely obsessed with Gabourey Sidibe. While she starred in one of the darkest movies to come out of 2009, off screen she was nothing but pure joy in every single interview she did. While she always had a smile on in public. It turns out, she was hurting real bad on the inside because she was struggling with her body.

Today, Gabourey Sidibe's body looks a lot different than it did when she first stepped into the spotlight. That’s because almost a year ago she underwent weight loss surgery. This came after years, and we means years, of suffering from a cascade of mental and health problems that could’ve led her life in a whole different direction.

Come May, the 33-year-old actress will drop her highly anticipated memoir, This Is Just My Face. In it she doesn’t hold anything back. We’re sure she’ll have a whole chapter on Precious and Lenny Kravitz, another about being part of a Coven, and her love of N’SYNC. What we cannot wait for though, are the parts where she gets real about her battle with not only bulimia but also depression and anxiety.

What’s worse is that this wasn’t just how Hollywood made her feel after she blew up in ‘09. This is how she had felt for years growing up. It’s hard to be different when you’re a kid, and while some may say teasing doesn’t impact people...we think it does! You can have a million and one great memories about growing up, but all it takes is that one rude comment from a class bully to ruin your day years later.

People got a hold of Sidibe’s book and ran some excerpts about her struggles. She notes, “I was in a war with my body for a long time. If I’d started treating it better sooner, I wouldn’t have spent so many years hating myself,” adding elsewhere, “There’s nothing ugly about me. Anyone trying to convince me that I am — and it’s usually me — is wasting her time.”

Gabourey Sidibe’s This Is Just My Face hits shelves May 1, 2017. We’re pre-ordering right now!
