Getting Your Sh*t Together: Fake it 'til You Make it

If your usual day consists of any of the following: spilling coffee on yourself in public, texting an ex, discussing a friend behind her back, or looking in the mirror to discover you accidentally used your lipstick as concealer, you need to get your sh*t together.

What if you don't have the time to actually, ya know, get it together? Well, m'dear, there are some ways to fake it until that time comes. As your fairy-get-your-sh*t-together mother, just go ahead and do, it's as easy as bippity-boppity-boo!

1. Slow Down

You know those classy gals who walk with grace and have people lingering on their every, enunciated word? Meanwhile you're speed-walking to that meeting and nearly tripping over yourself. Stop. Take a deep breath, check your posture, and walk with purpose. This isn't to say you should be late to things, but try to maintain composure.

2. Commit to What You Can Do, and No More

Why were you running around like a chicken with her head cut off, again? Well, you've got a lot going on, whether it's a coffee date with Joe, then a mani-pedi with Julia (okay, who just has these fun plans throughout their day) or it's more like pick-up the kids, soccer practice, make dinner, clean-up, cut out the things that are not MUST DOs.

3. Delegate

What if there are too many darn "must-dos"? Get your support system on it. Whether that means having a friend watch the kids (hers plus yours) to go to that meeting, or hey, even something fun, you'll pick up the slack next time. Always be sure to give and take a little from your support crew, you're there for each other for a reason.

4. Focus on What You Love, That Loves You Back

That hottie that isn't texting you back, the friend who always asks for money... oh honey, let 'em go. No need for dramatics, but please sidestep the drama and put time into things that serve you. If it's all give and no take, pursue new relationships that are more balanced. You deserve it.

5. Be Present

Where are you? Who are you with? What are you doing? How do you feel? Little self-checks like these will help you get in tune with if you're being rushed, overcommitted, not sharing the wealth of responsibilities or not feeling the love. Take a deep breath, enjoy the purity of the moment, there are more of them where that came from!
