Why Gucci Mane is #Winning...
This year marked the Year of the Trap OG, Gucci Mane himself. We got the chance to witness the glow up of your favorite trap rapper to a now commercially successful entertainer. Lately, we can’t seem to turn a blind eye from the burrrr-chanting ATLien who’s consumed himself in the limelight.
His transition from dropping mixtape classics to mainstream features has made him one of the glow ups of the year.
Since being released from prison in May of 2016, Gucci has essentially leveled up. Let’s not forget that last year after his release, everyone was on the “There’s no way that’s Gucci,” boat. As fans insisted that Gucci was not “Gucci”, but rather a government clone, the memes ensued.

His look isn’t the only new wave he’s on, but his sound has changed a bit as well as showcased on his new album, Mr. Davis. With features from Monica, The Weeknd, Big Sean, to ScHoolboy Q, Gucci shows a different side to him in which he ditches the old’ style and approach to rapping he clung to before his incarceration. And although the album may seem more like a chance to capitalize on his new mainstream shine rather than a chance to come out with a strong OG Gucci tape, it works.
Gucci’s winning streak wouldn’t be a win without his ride-or-die, Keyshia Ka’Oir. With a popping cosmetics line and her signature lippies, Keyshia’s a business woman in her own right. Keyshia stuck by La Flare’s side for his entire prison sentence of 3 years. In an Essence interview, Keyshia explained that, “Gucci was worth waiting for.”
Not to mention, the two have just tied the knot and BET was there to capture it all. They started off with their television special, Gucci Mane and Keyshia Ka’Oir: The Mane Event, that captured the days leading up to The Wopster’s wedding on tape. The 10-episode reality series was capped off with the actual wedding ceremony.

With a reality show, new album, and even his newly released book, The Autobiography of Gucci Mane, Mr. Zone 6 has no plans to slow down as indicated by his tour with The Weeknd. Gucci and The Weeknd will spend the rest of 2017 touring across the country. We call that #winning!
