Hall of Famer Julius “Dr. J” Erving Rushed To Hospital During 76ers Game
Hall of Famer Julius Erving, 67, fell ill at the 76ers game Friday night and was taken to a hospital, but we haven’t heard anything about his condition yet.
“Philadelphia 76ers legend Julius Erving fell ill at tonight's game and was taken to a local hospital, where he is currently being evaluated. He is expected to be released after the evaluation,” said a statement on behalf of Erving's management team and the Sixers.
The famous dunker known as Dr J led the Sixers to their most recent NBA championship in 1983 and was the 1981 NBA MVP. Three decades ago, Erving sank one of the greatest—and most iconic—shots in NBA history. It was Game 4 of the 1980 NBA Finals between the Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Lakers.
He was always there for his team! Erving rang the ceremonial Liberty Bell before tipoff. Shortly before he fell ill, Erving tweeted out from the game: “Rock the cradle! 35 years ago I threw down this dunk with the @sixers and it’s still one of my favorites. #TimeFlies #DocsDunks”
Here’s wishing Dr J a speedy recovery! #GetWellSoonDrJ
