Should You REALLY Hit Up Your Ex??

Meeting Ex Partner A Bad Idea
NBC

We all have that one ex that we can't seem to forget. The Ross to our Rachel. The Romeo to our Juliet. And we think about them all the time. It's not that we're still in love with them, but we just can't stop thinking about them, y'know? Even when you're happily in another relationship, they still enter your head occasionally.

And then you think,

"Huh. Maybe I should call them! Just to see how they're doing. Not because there's still anything between us, but just to catch up."

Well, of course, you could do that. There's absolutely nothing stopping you! You could also jump off of a 40 story building without a parachute. Still nothing stopping you there!

Hitting up your ex is, 9/10 times, a very bad idea. For multiple reasons. It's actually a flawed bit of logic, just in concept. There's got to be something that was wrong with your dynamic, so much so that one of you had to kill it for the other. You've already got trouble, and you haven't even gotten into specifics yet.

Why you broke up is an important thing to keep in mind. Was it because you two just didn't fit as partners and  decided it'd be better to "explore new options?" Or did one of you cheat? Chances are, if it's the latter, you shouldn't pick up the phone.

There's also the potential of unresolved emotions. One of you could still be feeling some type of way about the other. And it's hard to tell what's worse, pining for your ex or having them pine for you. That's an uncomfortable situation for the both of you, and probably one that's better to avoid.

HOWEVER, it's important to note that this may not be as awful an idea as it seems. Sure, there's potential for discomfort and a bitter undertone, but there's also a chance that you'll rediscover the feelings you lost for each other. Plenty of people have seen messy breakups, and still ended up tying the knot down the line. Prince William and Kate Middleton called it quits for awhile, and now they're England's sweethearts with TWO kids! And of course, Nene and Gregg separated for a bit too, before being remarried in 2013. There's hope for everyone, folks!

So the bottom line is, if you plan on hitting up your ex, a lot of things could go wrong. But at the same time, plenty of things could go right. It's all up to chance, and whether or not you're willing to take it.
