He's Got You: Signs That Your Man Is Truly Supportive

There’s nothing wrong with having a list of what you want in a man. For many reasons, we actually encourage it. But those of us who are a few years out of college know that you sometimes have to kiss a few frogs before you end up getting that wish list right. It takes dating a few duds (real talk) to realize that things like “cute” and “good in bed” should never come before mature, healthy (including emotionally) and supportive.

Yeah, there is nothing quite as heartwarming and wonderful as having a supportive man by your side. If it’s something you never really thought about before, let’s share with you some signs that yours is so that you can see if he’s truly a keeper---or not.

1. He respects your purpose

A good man is not someone who wants you to focus more on his career than your own. He’s actually going to be interested in what your goals and dreams are while investing some of his time, energy and resources into them too. A supportive man understands that your purpose is a huge part of who you are. He finds that to be one of the most attractive things about you.

2. He's intentional and proactive about meeting your needs

A supportive man doesn’t have to be begged or reminded to have your back. He listens to you when you say you have an important business meeting or you have a lot on your plate towards the end of the week. He’s the kind of person who will call you in the middle of the day to say “Hey, do you need me to bring you anything?” or will let you know that he scheduled a massage appointment over the weekend. Just to help you get your mind off of things.

3. He makes sacrifices

No relationship can survive if both people aren’t willing to make sacrifices from time to time. The key is to make sure you’re not the only one who’s doing it. The definition of sacrifice is “the surrender or destruction of something prized or desirable for the sake of something considered as having a higher or more pressing claim”. The right man for you knows this means that sometimes he will need to sacrifice his time or what he wants in order to help you to reach your goals.

4. He makes himself readily available (as much as possible)

Hopefully, if you’ve got a supportive man, you show you’re gratitude by being a supportive woman in return. If that’s the case, you already know that your man may not be able to answer every call or text, but he will make his some available to you as much as possible. Through his actions, he will let you know “I got you” more times than not.

5. He celebrates the small and big successes

There’s nothing like being with someone who recognizes big and small goals being met. A supportive man wants to take you to dinner to celebrate your new venture and also brings you roses when you complete your business proposal. To him, all of your achievements are a big deal!

6. He encourages you

We all have moments when we need a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on or someone who will get upset with us when things don’t go as planned. Someone who will look us in the eye when we’re scared to look in the mirror and remind us that we can do anything we want! A man who’s your cheerleader is a man work keeping for a really long time.

7. He pampers you too

Pretty much every girl dreams of (and deserves to be) pampered. To have her feet rubbed. To have dinner made for her. To have a bath drawn and a special gift brought home…for now specific reason at all. A supportive man sees the value in who you are as a woman, and as his woman. He knows that you deserve to be loved and cherished and he’ll do all that he can to make sure you know it too. No just on your birthday either. To him, every day that he’s with you is a special occasion. And it is!
