Hilary Duff Says She Felt 'Judged' For Starting A Family At A Young Age
If you think being a child star sounds rough, just imagine what it's like to start a family after growing up in the spotlight.
Actress and singer Hilary Duff, who had her son, Luca, when she was 24, recently opened up about what it was like to start settling down at a young age.
Duff married former hockey player Mike Comrie in 2010, when she was 22 and he was pushing 30, which didn't seem "too crazy" at the time, she said. (The two have since divorced.)
"When we were deciding to get married, I was totally down and I felt totally ready," Duff said in an interview on actor Nico Tortorella's podcast The Love Bomb last month. "I had already been working as an adult since I was 12 years old."
Having a kid seemed like the logical next step — for her, at least.
"I feel like I was judged for having a baby too soon and getting married too soon, and now I’m pigeonholed for being a 'mom,' " she told the hosts of The Talk in early December.
But, as Duff went on, it's not like she would have avoided judgment if she decided not to have kids.
"You know, (there’s) so much scrutiny," Duff continued, calling out Hollywood's sexist double standard. "Nobody cares about men’s personal lives as much as women’s."
Ain't that the truth, though — just look at how we treat childless stars like Jennifer Aniston!
Is there any way women can attempt to "have it all" these days without being criticized?
