How To De-Stress Quickly

Getting stressed out is easy. Getting rid of that stress...not so much. Living a full, active life comes with tons of responsibilities, and these responsibilities have a tendency to cause a pretty big amount of stress from time to time. Work, family, relationships, all of these things are important to us, but they all have the ability to make us anxious, tired, and overall frustrated. While it is important to develop techniques to prevent stress in the first place, sometimes it can't be avoided. Luckily, getting rid of a bit stress can be done with a little focus and all of these handy techniques.

Deep Breathing

Even doing a few minutes of simple deep breathing can do wonders for relieving tension in the body and stress altogether. When you're feeling stressed, focus only on breathing deep and feel your bad feelings melt away.

Listen to Some Music

Music has been known to drastically alter our moods. Upbeat pop music, soothing classical symphonies, or any of your favorite songs are sure to lift your spirits when you're feeling down. It may be nice to create a playlist for when you're stressed so that you always have something on hand in your iTunes or Spotify.

It may seem odd, but even fake laughter releases endorphins that help relieve stress. You can also watch some of your favorite funny videos, read a giggle-worthy comic, or talk to someone who always makes you laugh. Keep a few of your favorite comedy sketches, TV shows, or even blogs handy so you can turn to them when you're feeling down.

Give Yourself A Massage

If you can't find anyone to do it for you, giving yourself a nice, deep neck and shoulder massage will help you relieve tons of tension in your upper body. Apply an appropriate amount of pressure and only focus on spots that really need it.

Get up and dance around or take a nice long walk. Partaking in physical activity is a great way to clear your head and get a great boost of endorphins. Activities like yoga, pilates, and running are great for relieving stress and getting some much-needed exercise at the same time.

Get Away from That Screen

Social media, television, and video games may be fun but they also have a way of contributing to the stress we feel in major amounts. Take some time away from your cell phone and laptop for a while, disengage with the digital world, and focus on reality.

Treat yourself to a piece of candy or snack on something nice and healthy. Eating has a way of making us happy and taking our minds off of negative things. You should always remember to snack smart and in moderation, but there's nothing wrong with a little bit of indulgence.
