We like to consider ourselves a source for positive, life-empowering news and content. Stories that uplift and ways that you can live more healthful life! So it's from the bottom of the heart we write this today to remind you that the effects of smoking are far worse than the medical community had even imagined. If you still light up every now and then, here are a few things to consider.
Smoking causes 480,000 deaths annually in the United States. This is a published fact already known. But, a recent study by the New England Journal of Medicine suggests that smoking may cause an additional 120,000 deaths each year. That is over half a million people losing their lives each year to smoking-related diseases.
Regardless of the type of disease, if you smoke it will be worse. This sounds vague, but run with us here. Studies have proven that the rates of death from ANY cause are three times higher if the person was a smoker. 83% of deaths in smokers were caused by 21 specific diseases they all had in common.
If you stop smoking, things get better. Studies show that your risks of death decrease dramatically if you STOP smoking. So... no matter what you have done in your past, every day is a chance to make a better choice!
