Usually, when people are given top-secret security clearances, they’ve been working in the government for years and are experts on policy. Also, the people working in the White House typically have official jobs related to the running of our country.

That, unsurprisingly, is not the case in the Trump administration. His daughter Ivanka has just been granted access to classified information, as well as her own office in the West Wing. Which, also unsurprisingly, directly contradicts something Trump said just a few months ago.

It’s been confirmed that Ivanka, after playing a very visible role in her father’s campaign last year, will be taking on an expanded position in his administration. Thing is, she’s not being given any official titles or responsibilities – she’s just kind of there.

Along with her no-name role, Ivanka will be given government issued phones and computers, as well as security clearance usually reserved for high-ranking officials. And, again, she doesn’t technically even have a job on staff.

While there’s a lot to be confused and/or angry about with this latest move by Trump, perhaps the most egregious plot twist is that just four months ago, the President tweeted that this exact situation would not occur:

At this point, no one expects an apology or explanation from the President. Because that would be way too rational.

Since the announcement, many commentators have heavily criticized Ivanka’s new office and access. And these aren’t the usual Twitter trolls; these are major journalists and power players in Washington:

When even professionals are bashing you on social media, you know you’ve screwed up.
