J.K. Rowling Just Revealed There Will Be FIVE 'Fantastic Beasts' Movies!!!
Magic is never going to die, if J.K. Rowling has her way.
The billionaire author of the Harry Potter series said yesterday that she expects to do 5 – count ‘em, FIVE – movies for the Fantastic Beasts series.
The first, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, is already set to release on November 17. It will be the first time Rowling actually wrote the script for a movie – all the Harry Potter films had professional screenwriters handling the treatments.
But while a sequel to Fantastic Beasts had already been announced, this is the first anyone’s heard to Rowling’s ambitious & awesomesauce plan to make a series of 5 films, all still set in the HP universe.
“We always knew it was going to be more than one movie, and we said a trilogy as a place holder,” according to Rowling. “But I’ve done the plotting properly and I’m pretty sure it’s going to be five movies.”
The first film, at least, stars Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, an author referenced in the Harry Potter books. The setting this time around is American – New York City, to be precise, and seventy years before Harry ever attends Hogwarts.
Redmayne is as big a fan of Rowling’s as we are. “[She] has the most extraordinary imagination of our generation and she has created something entirely different.” - from BBC News.
The director of Fantastic Beasts is David Yates, who also helmed the final four HP films. He’s already signed on for at least the sequel.
