Kendrick Lamar Drops 1st Single From Black Panther: The Album--Dope!!!
You heard the rumors, but now it’s confirmed: Kendrick Lamar is working with Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) founder Anthony Tiffith to curate and produce Black Panther: The Album. Yes!!
We hear it’ll feature songs directly from the film, as well as new music inspired by it, such as Black Panther’s lead single ‘All the Stars’ featuring Lamar and SZA, his Grammy-nominated label mate.
Take a listen…it’s dope!
Everyone’s digging it. In fact, it’s trending like crazy!
Charles Pulliam-Moore, music and film pundit at i09 wrote, “I love this. Unlike most of the bombastic, melodramatic songs that are usually associated with superhero movies, ‘All the Stars’ is a contemplative, bass-heavy reflection on the heavy weight on T’Challa’s shoulders as he ascends to the throne. It’s a different and fresh take on what a hero’s anthem can be.”
Black Panther will check off a number of firsts for Marvel Studios: it’s their first movie directed by a black filmmaker (Ryan Coogler), and their first with a black lead (Chadwick Boseman) and a primarily black cast. It’s been named one of the most-anticipated films of 2018 and is pretty much guaranteed to be a blockbuster.
Lamar expressed his delight in a statement at being involved with this unique superhero flick and emphasized how the landmark film is more than just a run-of-the-mill comic book adaptation:
“Marvel Studios’ Black Panther is amazing, from its cast to its director. The magnitude of this film showcases a great marriage of art and culture. I’m truly honored to contribute my knowledge of producing sound and writing music alongside [director Ryan Coogler] and Marvel’s vision.”
This is the first time that Lamar will write, produce, perform, and curate for a major motion picture. He was handpicked by Coogler. “I am honored to be working with such an incredible artist whose work has been so inspirational, and whose artistic themes align with those we explore in the film,” said Coogler. “I can’t wait for the world to hear what Kendrick and TDE have in store.”
TDE also expressed their thoughts about pairing with the groundbreaking film, adding:
"Working on such a powerful movie is a great opportunity. We're always working on new goals at TDE, so teaming up with Disney, Marvel Studios and the Black Panther film makes perfect sense."
Black Panther: The Album comes out on February 9 and the film hits theaters worldwide on February 16.
We’ll be there on opening day for both! Will you? #BlackPanther #AllTheStars
