"I Like ’Em Lighter, A Little Whiter”: Laura Govan Slammed For Shading Dark-Skinned Black Men
Laura Govan was already in hot water and trying to fan the flames and after a interview with "The Breakfast Club," she's only made matters worse. Much, much, worse.
The former "Basketball Wives: LA" star made what seems to be a racist statement toward Vincent Herbert, Tamar Braxton's estranged husband.
Some backstory here, Tamar and Vincent had a drama-filled 2017. The year ended with a bang when Tamar announced she was done with Herbert due to his constant affairs and alleged child on the way by another woman. She also went on to reveal Govan as his long time mistress. Yass, Tamar aired out ALL the laundry!
Of course Govan denies the claim and used her time on The Breakfast Club to attempt to "set the record straight." When asked about the claims, she simply laughed while saying Herbert is not the type of man she would sleep with, partly because of his skin color. This is where she should have stopped talking.
She went on to add, “I do not even know Vince like that, I think he is a great guy, but he is so not my type. I like ’em lighter, a little whiter.”
Yea -- she said it.
Govan wrapped up her answer saying, “That part is laughable, but the rest is not. You know at first it is like, ‘Is this a joke?’ Because I woke up to a story that is just not true and I was thinking, ‘ I have worked so hard to get away from certain stigmas and the drama from before. It is just [that] nothing is true and it is so hard for me not to go in …”
Not known for being a modest bunch, listeners of The Breakfast Club did not waste time sounding off and calling Govan out for her racist, tasteless, remarks.
One listener said: “Read your comment on liking men lighter and whiter. You didn’t have those same feelings when you had those babies from Gilbert as long as that check was green.”
Another Govan critic stated: “I hope you ridiculed Gilbert for making nasty comments about dark-skinned women though.”
No response or apology just yet from Govan but with the backlash, we're sure there will be more to come from this messy little situation. Silence really is golden, fam.
