Leslie Jones Jokes About White People Supporting #BlackLivesMatter & Gets Slammed
"Humor is a rubber sword--it allows you to make a point without drawing blood."
While this quote may very well be true for most comics, Leslie Jones can't seem to catch a break. During her set at Caroline's on Broadway, the SNL comedian and Ghostbusters star made a joke about Black AND White women's participation in the Black Lives Matter movement and social media lost its collective minds.
Page Six quoted Jones as saying, "If I see another 45-year-old White woman from Williamsburg saying ‘black lives matter,’ I’m going to punch you in the mouth." She followed up with, "Stop doing that." Jones was just getting started and no one was off limits. She poked fun at the lack of Black women who show up at these protests. "Not one Black woman out there," she said. "Black woman at home watching 'Housewives of Atlanta.'"
Jones went in on Trump calling him a pig and the reason why she is currently single. She even laughed off the hacking scandal where her nude photos were leaked last August. For some reason, the thing that struck a nerve with the Starbucks internet activists and Perez Hilton was her comment about White women at these protests.
Look. There are a few things that need to be straightened out quick, fast, and in a hurry. One. Leslie Jones is a comedian with a very unique perspective about race relations in this country. She is doing her job which is to shine a light on human behavior. And if the shoe fits...
Two. White folks seem to think that Black people should throw them a ticker tape parade when they finally stand up for what is right. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said that, "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." Sooner or later, the fallout of racism and bigotry will darken all of our doorsteps. As a citizen of these here United States, standing up for the poor, the oppressed, and the voiceless is your DUTY.
Three. If anybody knows what racism is, it's Leslie Jones. Sure, she is doing a bang-up job over at SNL, but their hiring practices as far as Black people are concerned are far from stellar. And judging by how ruthless the internet trolls like Milo Yiannopolous were towards Jones last year, it is nothing short of a miracle that she is still in the business.
Besides, where was all this outrage when everybody was gunning for Jones in the past? One thing's for sure, her comedy acts will never do to White people what the slugs of their race have done to her. Believe that.
And lastly, if you are going to "report" on what Leslie Jones says in front of a packed house at Caroline's, BUY A TICKET or get some video. Attacking a Black women doesn't score you any brownie points with anybody that matters, Perez. But, hey. If the show is sold out, Leslie can probably arrange to have a few folding chairs brought in from the green room. Have a seat.
