Melissa McCarthy As Sean Spicer On SNL Will Drive Your Monday Blues Away
SNL isn't holding back this year. But considering our President is a reality star and his cabinet is a literal joke, why should they? They have plenty of material to work with now.
We've got Alec Baldwin playing Donald Trump, the Grim Reaper playing Steve Bannon, and now...we've got Melissa McCarthy playing Sean Spicer.
Kate McKinnon even made her clueless Betsy DeVos debut on Saturday:
McCarthy's Sean Spicer impression is like nothing we've ever seen before. She perfectly embodied the never-ending state of stress the alternative-fact-giver always seems to be in.
When a journalist asked Spicer about Trump's travel ban, his reply was, "It's not a ban. The travel ban is not a ban, which makes it not a ban."
When the journalist referenced Trump's tweet that called it a ban, McCarthy said, "Because I'm using your words. You said ban. You said ban. Now I'm saying it back to you. Yeah exactly, you just said that, he's quoting you, it's your words he's using your words when you used the words and he uses them back it's circular using of the word and that's from you."
Now, it looks like Spicer has a few things to say about McCarthy's impression.
Spicer spoke to "Extra" during the Super Bowl and said McCarthy "needs to slow down on the gum chewing" because she had "way too many pieces in there."
While Spicer found the episode funny, he's not a huge fan of their Trump impression.
"Alec has gone from funny to mean, and that's unfortunate," he said. "'SNL' used to be really funny. There's a streak of meanness now that they've crossed over to mean."
We have to disagree with Spicer on that one. We want more Baldwin, more McCarthy, and more McKinnon.
Bravo, SNL. Bravo. 👏
