2 Men Have Gone Missing After Investigating A Chinese Factory Used By Ivanka Trump & Kylie Jenner
It’s easy to joke about sweatshops from the comfort of your first-world home, but this story highlights just how serious the issue really is.
Two investigators are missing and a third has been arrested, all while they were investigating a Chinese shoe factory that supplies brands owned by Ivanka Trump and Kylie and Kendall Jenner.
The factory in question is owned by the Huajian Group. Aside from the Trump and Jenner brands, they provide goods for companies like Nine West, Easy Spirit, Mark Fisher and more.
The three investigators work for China Labor Watch (CLW), and had reportedly discovered several disturbing trends -- things like sub-minimum wage and forced overtime, as well as women’s right’s violations.
Then they disappeared. Two of the men have yet to be found; the third has been detained, according to police, although what exactly he’s charged with is unclear. Obviously, everyone has a good idea of why these men are ‘missing’, but as of yet, no more information is available.
A representative for Mark Fisher told reporters that their company was, “unaware of the allegations [of human rights violations] and will look into them immediately.” No other American brand with ties to the suspicious factory has commented.
As many are pointing out, this is just another point of sketchiness for Trump brands. Ivanka’s company states that it’s all about “empowering women,” but they’re using a manufacturer that’s abusing women? Not to mention that her father’s entire Presidential campaign was based upon bringing jobs back to America – outsourcing work to sweatshops in China is the exact opposite of that.
But for now, that’s not the biggest issue – advocacy groups and the CLW are currently working to discover the fate of the missing men and secure release for the third.
