Michael Flynn Pleads Guilty To Lying To FBI In Russia Probe...Allegedly Says Trump Told Him To Contact Russians
Maaaaan...this Russia investigation is HEATING UP as former U.S. National Security Adviser Michael Flynn has plead GUILTY to lying to the FBI about meetings he had with Russia.
First and foremost, ish just got real! According to The Hill, Flynn is expected to blow the whistle on Trump...saying the president gave him orders to make contact with the Russians! Say what!!!
Flynn is coming clean! According to NBC News, a two-page information filed Thursday in federal court lists a number of false statements that Flynn is accused of making about his interactions with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak in late December 2016.
So what exactly did he lie about?
First off, he told the FBI that he never asked Kislyak "to refrain from escalating the situation in response to sanctions that the U.S. had imposed against Russia [under then-President Obama]."
Remember: Flynn did that when Trump hadn't been sworn in as President yet, which is a no-no.
In addition, he said he didn't remember the Russian ambassador telling him that Russia would back down as a result of Flynn's request. That too was a bold-faced lie.
And that's not all.
In addition to taking payments from Russia and Turkey, federal court papers stated that "he falsely claimed that he didn't ask Kislyak on Dec. 22 to 'delay a vote on or defeat' a U.N. Security Council resolution, and then falsely denied that Kislyak had described Russia's response to the request."
The court says that Flynn made all of these false statements on Jan. 24 to the FBI, two days after he was sworn in as the national security advisor under Trump.
These charges carry a sentence of roughly five years in prison, but NBC says that political experts believe that Flynn won't spend a day in jail because his crimes were non-violent. He'll most likely get probation and a fine at sentencing.
(Meanwhile, Meek Mill is in jail for 2-4 years. But we digress.)
If you recall, Flynn was fired by Trump just 24 days on the job after it was revealed that he lied to Vice President Mike Pence about his dealings with Russia.
Soon after, Flynn was Trump's first associate to be called out in the investigation led by special counsel Robert Mueller into possible collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign, NBC noted. Flynn is also the fourth person to be charged in the Mueller probe.
Let it be known, that President Obama warned Trump to leave Flynn alone, but Trump did not listen. Speaking of #45, how is he dealing with all of this?
CNN writes that the White House is confident that Flynn pleading guilty has nothing to do with them.
"The conclusion of this phase of the special counsel's work demonstrates again that the special counsel is moving with all deliberate speed and clears the way for a prompt and reasonable conclusion," Ty Cobb, a White House lawyer, said in a statement.
Time will only tell if this will fall back on Trump, because quiet as it's kept, if he wasn't doing this for the President, then who was he doing this all for?
And as the New York Times reports, Flynn is cooperating with the FBI to help link all of this to the President's inner circle.
In the meantime, we're over like this waiting for all the other shoes to drop...
