Michelle Obama Calls Out Trump's Changes To Her Healthy School Lunches: 'What Is Wrong With You?'
After two dynamic terms as first lady, Michelle Obama isn't going quietly into civilian life.
While speaking at the Partnership for a Healthier America's annual summit Friday, Obama addressed the Trump administration's recent decision to scale back the healthy school lunch program she championed in office.
Impressively, she did it without mentioning the current president's name ONCE.
"This is where you really have to look at motives. You know, you have to stop and think, 'Why don't you want our kids to have good food at school? What is wrong with you, and why is that a partisan issue?' " Obama asked. "Why would that be political?"
Obama is wasting no time diving back into one of her signature causes since Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue relaxed requirements on whole grains, salt, and milk for school lunch programs just over a week ago.
According to CNN, the new rule allows states to exempt schools in need from meeting the 100 percent whole-grain-rich standard. It also erases the strictest standard for lowering sodium in school lunches, and allows meal programs to serve students 1% flavored milk instead of skim flavored milk.
Obama isn't taking these changes lying down, telling the audience that "my commitment to these issues is real."
"Moms, think about this," she implored at the summit. "I don't care what state you live in, take me out of the equation. Like me, don't like me, but think about why someone is OK with your kids eating crap.
"Here's the secret: If somebody is doing that, they don't care about your kid. And we need to demand everyone to care deeply about our kids. That's all we have."
