When it comes to talking about boobage, it is the general consensus that women who decide to get a boob job are pining for bigger busts. Plastic surgeons, however, beg to differ.

According to the new research conducted by The Plastic Surgery Group, women are trading their double Ds for C-sized implants. Plus, there's a new trend in town. Women are now also opting for tinier nipple sizes.

"During breast surgery to lift or reduce the breast the nipple is re-positioned. This requires an incision around the nipple and gives the patient an opportunity to resize her nipple", said consulting plastic surgeon Dan Marsh in The Plastic Surgery Group’s press release. "We have seen a 30% rise in women requesting a smaller nipple size in the last year. This is tied into the trend towards smaller breast augmentation sizes. The average size is now 250-300cc (approx D-C cup) compared with 350-400cc (Double DD or E cup) several years ago", he added.

To further understand this trend, the researchers showed 131 participants different photos of nipples and asked them which one they liked most. It was revealed that the nipples that were deemed most attractive are those that occupy 25-30% of the overall breast area. Nipples taking up more than 50% of the breast were seen as too large, while nipples that took up less than 15% of boob space were rated as too small.

Dr. Marc Mani, a Beverly Hills-based plastic surgeon, thinks that more and more women are now getting concerned about their nipple size. Women do come in for nipple issues alone: too large, too small, too ‘shy’ (or inverted), and we have techniques for all types of nipples.”

As for the trend surrounding smaller breast implants, Mani believes that it's because more people want their surgery to be a little more subtle and discreet.

“Plastic surgery, in its ideal form, is a deception,” he stated. “We are trying to create something that is more beautiful but that looks like nature made it, not a plastic surgeon. People’s tastes are getting more refined and aware of this fact, and so any breast enhancement that looks artificial is, from this perspective, an abject failure.”
