If you don't know anything about Black women, know this: We don't let just anyone do our hair. After all, our hair is our crown and it is our glory. Finding new styles and the perfect hairdresser to create a look is as simple as approaching a sister on the street, offering a well-placed compliment and then asking her who does her hair.

Now, accomplishing that task will be as simple as downloading an app. An enterprising trio of software entrepreneurs, Esther Olatunde, Priscilla Hazel and Cassandra Sarfo, have created a new app especially for Black hair called, Tress — and it does everything you need it to do!

According to an article in Cosmopolitan, the app serves as a database which explains every kind of hairstyle imaginable including weaves, braids, locs, blowouts, twists and more!

All users will be able to join an online community. You can create a profile, post pics of your hair, shout-out your favorite salons, dish on the hair care products that you love and even watch tutorials.

Olatunde said in a Refinery29 interview that there is a need for a consolidated database of all things Black hair. Right now, searching for information on care and styling of textured hair can be like finding a needle in a haystack. Tress aims to fill that void. "When it comes to Black women's hair, there is a lot of information that you need to know and things you need to do, but it is very fragmented," Olatunde said. "Even though the industry is quite huge and there is a lot of money in it, there is no one platform that caters to their needs."

These ladies are hopeful that Tress will be the go-to spot online to talk about hair care while finding great style inspiration. Olatunde explained, "If you want to go and connect with your friends, Facebook is the place you go to. Instagram is if you want to check out nice photos. If you want to change your hair or connect with a stylist...we want Tress to be the platform you think of.”
