NBA Star Lorenzen Wright’s Ex-Wife Charged With His Murder
It’s about time… Memphis’ most puzzling murder mystery might finally be solved.
The Lorenzen Wright homicide became Memphis, Tennessee’s most famous cold case, after the 34-year-old NBA star’s bullet-riddled body was found in a swampy field in July 2010.
The 6-foot-11 baller was a first-round pick in the NBA draft and played 13 seasons in the league, including stints with the Clippers, the Hawks, the Kings, the Cavs, and lastly, the Memphis Grizzlies. Wright had been enjoying his retirement for only one year, and had so many things to look forward to.
When his body was discovered, the city and sport fans mourned. Thousands attended a memorial service in the FedEx Forum, where the Grizzlies play. But police could not figure out who killed him. Seven long years went by. His six children have been without their father, and without answers.
But there’s been a big break in the case. According to new allegations, Wright’s ex-wife Sherra Wright-Robinson, had him killed. Police declined to say exactly what led them to make the arrests and they didn't provide a motive for the killing. Memphis Police Director Mike Rallings told CNN that more people may be charged.
The 46-year-old woman was taken into custody in Riverside, California, on December 16 and charged with conspiring with to kill her former husband.
She was indicted on charges of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, and attempted first-degree murder. Wright-Robinson has also been charged with a prior attempt on Wright's life.
Her alleged accomplice Billy Turner, also 46, of the Memphis suburb of Collierville, was arrested December 5 and charged with the same offenses. CNN reported that Turner pleaded not guilty.
Justice may finally be served after the killing of one of the most well-known athletes to come out of the Bluff City.
