Back in my day, you could get rocks for free!

Nordstrom has an $85 rock for sale. Before you think that's too crazy, it does come with a hand stitched leather case. No, not a cool leather bag that you could actually use that happens to have a rock in it, a weird, open at the top circle of leather made only to protect one big rock.

Actually the rock isn't all that big. It's 3 x 4.5 inches. That means you couldn't even hold your phone in the pouch! You could put a fun sized Twix in there and that's about it.

Now, if it held The Rock for $85, well that we could get behind.

Nordstrom's doesn't seem to really know what this is all for. The product description says:

"A paperweight? A conversation piece? A work of art? It's up to you, but this smooth Los Angeles-area stone—wrapped in rich, vegetable-tanned American leather secured by sturdy contrast whipstitching—is sure to draw attention wherever it rests. "

When the store selling it can't give you any idea what to do with your $85 product, that's a bad sign.

People are super perplexed about why anyone would want this. Oh, and to be clear, this isn't a diamond or something in a leather pouch. It's a rock. A straight up found it outside in the lawn, rock. Plus, it's all beige, that lamest of all colors.

Cosmopolitan tried to get to the bottom of this wrapped rock mystery. Made Solid are the creators behind the wrap and co-founder Peter Maxwell told Cosmo that the rock wrap has been one of their most popular items since 2014. This isn't even the first time Nordstrom has carried it, it's just the first time the internet found out about it.

Maxwell said that the high price is due to the high quality of the leather craftsmanship. Sure, we get spending some dough on good leather. It's just that most of us never thought, "Oh man, my indoor rocks look so lame. If only I could get them a tiny leather jacket, then I'd have the coolest rocks in town!"

This rock must be only be popular among leather product completists and people who literally have money to piss away.

But if you'd like to give a gift that will certainly start a conversation (mostly the conversation of "What is wrong with you for giving this gift") pop over to Nordstrom before they run out of precious, precious rocks.
