Who are we kidding with this boycott the Oscar's shenanigans. The Oscars in whole is not the problem. Hollywood, production companies, writers of color telling more of our stories, and funding for movies with that perspective in mind now that is the issue. We seemingly were doing a little better with Shonda Rhimes and her takeover on Thursday's with two leading black women on prime time t.v. series. We also have Nicole Beharie, Sleepy Hollow, along with Tracee Ellis Ross as leading lady in a comedy and now Brandy Norwood on BET. But when it comes to movies we are just not matching up. Straight Outta Compton gave us some promise but where are the other films from the black community. Movies of substance and are groundbreaking like, Higher Learning or School Daze. Hollywood is already becoming a bit boring with all the remakes of classic movies and now with the absence of more original screenplays from black writers getting an Oscar nomination for people of color will skip years.

So what's next? Seek out black writers. Utilize the acting talents of old and young black Hollywood. Write scripts for people of color with more content and dare it be said diversity. We celebrate the acknowledgement of "black Oscar wins of the past but we are more than slaves, maids, and crooked cops. We know their are more John Singletons and Spike Lee's out there. Black actresses and actors are waiting for the opportunities. Now we need to bring all this elements together and create more films so that the Oscars have reason to nominate a person of color but how about more thank one every other season.
