Liquor List

If your standards are a little higher than Natty Light, then you have probably at least heard of Pappy Van Winkle, the bourbon and cigar maker that has taken "fine bourbon" to a completely new level. Van Winkle bourbons are carefully crafted, and true fans of the liquor say that "old Van Winkle" - meaning the bourbon crafted in the original distillery - is so much better than "new Van Winkle" - bourbon crafted in their new headquarters.

Well, Van Winkle fans, the company is releasing a twenty-five year old limited edition bourbon. The catch? Less than one thousand are being sold, and it will cost $1,800.

There are so few bottles because the bourbon was aged only in eleven barrels. Yes, your math is correct. Twenty-five years of aging means that these are the last remaining bottles with whiskey from the "old Van Winkle" headquarters.

Another incredible aspect to this bourbon is its packaging. Made with handmade glass from the Glencairn Crystal Studio, each bottle is numbered with a silver stopper. On top of that, the box in which the bourbon is packaged comes from the barrels in which the bourbon was aged.

It is expected that these bottles will mostly be bought for resale at a higher price. The novelty of being from the "old Van Winkle" distillery and the age of the bourbon itself makes it easy for suppliers to sell the drink at a much higher price that the wholesale $1,800.

Even so, some liquor stores in major cities will sell the bourbon at its original price. However, it is incredibly doubtful that you will even get this. A lot of liquor stores have wait lists for their finer products and have a first-look deal with a lot of their frequent clients.

If you are one of the chosen few who gets to take a sip of this bourbon, consider yourself lucky. Most people would saw off their left arm for a drink and would saw off the other for a bottle. The always-smooth taste of Van Winkle bourbon has been elevated and will soon become the talk of the town when it is released this spring.
