Paramedic Killed On The Job By A Drugged Man Who Stole Her Ambulance And Ran Her Over
She lived a hero, and she died a hero.
New York paramedic Yadira Arroyo was hit by a stolen ambulance on Thursday night in the Bronx while responding to a call.
The man driving the stolen vehicle, Jose Gonzalez, has fortunately been locked up. He was charged with murder, driving while impaired by drugs, and grand larceny.
Arroyo was a 44-year-old mother of five children and a loyal public servant, with 14-years under her belt as a fire department veteran. We can't even imagine what this feels like for her family.
According to Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro, Arroyo was riding with another paramedic when they were told a suspicious man was riding on their back bumper. Minutes later when they stopped to check, he ran to the front seat, put the ambulance in reverse, and hit Arroyo.
The 44-year-old paramedic was thrown under the vehicle, giving her no chance for survival. It's not only f***ed up, but it's sadly disturbing that some man on drugs killed someone for...whatever he was trying to do.
Governor Andrew Cuomo said "[paramedics are] heroes who help countless New Yorkers every day. Tonight's tragedy in the Bronx is horrible. My deepest sympathies to the family."
We send our condolences to the Arroyo family. A true hero.
