Gas Station Nachos Put Woman In A Coma For Three Weeks
No one likes to admit it, but we've all had our fill of goodies from a gas station or two in our lives. Be it one of those nasty looking hot dogs on the dirty revolving cooker, or in the case of many in Northern California, some deadly gas station nachos. Wait, what? Yes, deadly. One woman spent a few weeks in a coma, and another man lost his life.
Gas station food would never win accolades from the likes of Gordon Ramsay, but never in our wildest nightmares would we think it could cause THIS much harm.
33-year-old Lavinia Kelly thought all was well and normal when she stopped at Valley Oak Food and Fuel after work in late April to grab a snack. She picked up some Doritos and decided to add some nacho cheese to the mix to give them a little bump in flavor.

Instead, she started to feel like something was not right. She had trouble breathing, her vision was off and, of course, she started puking. Lavinia was in a coma for three weeks, and she was left partially paralyzed from the tainted cheese.
Nine other people have been hospitalized after eating nacho cheese from this gas station. All of them wound up getting botulism from what they thought was a simple snack. One man even lost his life to this.
Martin Galindo-Larios Jr. was a loving father and husband who like Kelly thought he was just eating something he'd probably eaten before. Instead, he fell into a coma, was left on a ventilator and then passed away.

Botulism is rare, but it obviously can happen. It spreads when you eat something contaminated, but is often treatable in most cases. Sad, yes. Crazy, most definitely. So far, Martin has been the only one to pass from the bad nacho cheese. There is a lawsuit being drawn up about this, but all we know is that this is going to make us think twice about giving into those cravings the next time we stop for gas.
