"He Didn't Know What I Sacrificed To Be Here": Plus Sized Runner Finishes NYC Marathon In Spite Of Laughs

Plus sized runner, L. Shauntay Snell, has had a heck of year. She ran the Chicago Marathon on Oct. 8 and the New York City Marathon on Nov. 5—followed by the New York Road Runners 60K Ultramarathon less than two weeks later. Just wow!!!

No matter what size you are, that's an incredible feat!! But the fact that she is admittedly plus-sized...we gotta give this sista all praises!! #YouGoGirl

Some however, didn't see it that way. During the NYC Marathon, a tall, balding white man, as Snell described him in her post appearing on The Glowup, snickered at her saying: “It’s gonna take your fat a** forever, huh?” WTF!!!

Despite the discouraging remarks, Snell, who runs the food and fitness blog Running Fat Chef, finished the marathon and has the medal to prove it. Standing at 5-foot-3-inch, 218-pounds Snell wrote in her The Glow essay that she invested endless hours on  pavement training.  She also stayed committed, and rose at ungodly hours each morning in preparation for the marathon. So she was not about to let the likes of a miserable entitled runner get the best of her. Period!

She writes: "He didn’t know what I’d sacrificed to be there; how I’d contemplated abandoning a sport I often refer to as “oxygen” because I was still grieving the miscarriage of my twins in August. He didn’t know I’d had emergency surgery for endometriosis, or the 142 times over the course of a year that I’d been called everything from “fat bi*ch” to the n-word online, simply for being a Black, plus-size food-and-fitness blogger."

Finishing the NYC Marathon—a few minutes over the seven-hour mark, Snell said she was too overjoyed in her accomplishment to harbor any bitterness or ill feelings towards the runner. She says her clapback was her running across five boroughs and finishing in the rain. #ThickGirlClapBack #ThickGirlsRun #BlackGirlMagic #MadProps
