Police Arrest 70 Partygoers Over Less Than An Ounce Of Weed At New Year's Eve Party
Can you imagine it's New Year's Eve AND your 21st birthday? For most of us, that would be #TurnUpTime but for this group of partygoers it was ruined by some nonsense.
Are y'all ready for this? Police showed up to a house responding to a call of possible gunshots fired and found marijuana after searching several first floor rooms. No one owned up, so police arrested everyone. By everyone, we mean 70 people!! Say what??!
The home, located in the suburbs of Cartersville, about 40 minutes outside of Atlanta, was rented on Airbnb by Deja Heard for her “Christmas lingerie/pajama party” celebrating her 21st birthday. Police were called to the home around 2:18 a.m. after receiving calls of possible gunshots in the area. Attendees informed the officers it was just fireworks, not gunshots. It was New Year's Eve after all. However, after smelling marijuana in the front yard, two officers decided to search inside the home.
After finding multiple small increments of weed, totaling less than ONE ounce, police arrested ALL 70 attendees of the party. All have been charged with possession of less than an ounce of marijuana. Can you believe this?
To make matters worse, some of the attendees were held up to three days in jail and report being mistreated! Some have reported claims of their hands being tied with zip ties and being threatened with tasers. One pregnant woman reported being told she was unfit to have a child - despite repeatedly claiming her innocence in the situation to officers.
Parents and everyone involved are outraged -- and they have every right to be! Some of these people were star athletes at their schools, most lost their jobs, and now all of them are looking at a criminal record.
Heard told Chanel 2's Tyisha Fernandes, "I’m very sorry it happened, all of us are innocent – it's just not right." Most of the people arrested have obtained attorneys and the NAACP is now involved. So, buckle-up Cartersville PD, it's about to get deep.
Effective January 1, 2018, this type of thing won't happen...at least in California, where recreational use of weed is legal now.
Do you think these Georgia arrests were a huge waste of taxpayer dollars considering that weed is legal in some state...and moving that way in many more? Tell us what you think of all this fam.
